young and free in the sun

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Two days ago, i noticed that the days were getting a tiny bit shorter. We eat out on our balcony most nights, having a chat about our day and enjoying the scent of frangipanis that wafts towards us when the wind is blowing in the right direction. But it now gets dark by about 8.20 at night and we have to return inside, continuing our conversation by the light of the lamp in the living room. Only one month of summer remains and it makes me wistful.

I know i have embraced this season with all of my heart. I have swum on most days, enjoying the cool water and improving my freestyle. I have been eating seasonally, relishing all the stone fruits i can get my hands on. I been wearing shorts and dresses. I have been eating ice-cream. So, no regrets for this season but merely a nostalgia for fun times had.

Last night, we had a wonderful dinner. We made pizza on wholemeal pita bread- home made tomato sauce, olives, mozzarella and basil on one and tuna, egg, onion, garlic, parsley and tasty cheese on the other. Perfect with a glass of white wine and the sunset. For dessert i made mango on sticky rice, which was amazing! I used this recipe. We watched two epiosdes of 30 Rock and then called it a night. A perfect end to the day.

Australia Day

Monday, January 26th, 2009

It’s Australia Day today. We went to the local bakery for some treats and then stopped by Bellagio for a take-away soy latte. In the afternoon, we have a tea date with an elderly couple who used to live above us. Long weekends are great!

With temperatures rising to 41 degrees celcius a few hours after writing the last post, i was inspired to make our bedroom look light and breezy. I sewed two new floral cushion covers and got the white quilt cover out. Everything looks just so pretty now. It’s still very hot and impossible to sleep in but there is something to be said for a room that is at least, aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

very very hot

It’s 37 degrees (97.5 F) out now. Really too hot to do anything. I can’t get to the beach today but am dreaming about a swim in the cool water.

a new day

It is so hot right now and the sunroom (the warmest place in the house) is not the best place to sit and type right this moment. But i wanted to share a bit of my morning with you.

I did the coastal walk, admiring the ocean. I came home and had a peach and pomegranate salad with yoghurt and fresh mint from the garden. I browsed through a magazine and saw my dream house pictured- more pages for my inspiration board.

And soon, i will turn the tv on to catch the repeat telecast of the inauguration of President Obama. It was shown ‘live’ at 3:30am but i couldn’t wake up. Still, I look forward to the changes that must occur for the world to move on. May his term as president be filled with much grace and favour.
